Kayak fishing is about camaraderie. In January 2013 Tim, Diego and my nephew Peter from South Africa loaded up for a 4 day Cambutal kayak fishing and camping trip on the Azuero Peninsula in January 2013
Stealth Kayaks, were made for fishing trips like this. The North wind was blowing pretty good 15 -20 knot, I knew it would be offshore and that we would have to pay attention not to get blown off shore. I could not wait to get on the water
Once loaded with the fishing kayaks on the roof we headed out. Our first stop, road side pit stop, was during a magnificent sunset. I had a good feeling, in Chitre. We fueled and then saw a Circus, yes that’s right ! it was so cool to still see old time entertainment in our smaller cities. I remember as a kid in S.A., the Boswell and Wilkey Circus was so much fun. We had to go.
Camping under the trees in dry season, sunrise could not come early enough. There was amazing bird action, it’s been long time since I’ve seen good bird action , and a great finale to Peter’s visit to Panama.
Verns Tree house a great place to stay on the Azuero.
After 4 day we had the most amazing paddling, exploring the Azuero coast, cold beers, local foods, and good friendship. A Cambutal kayak fishing trip really is back to nature. We’ll be returningthere in the year to experience bigger fish, and hopefully Yellowfin Tuna, when the off-shore winds of summer have calmed down.
